IMPORTANT FESTIVAL DATES

  • Earlybird Submission Date – February 17, 2012
  • Regular Submission Date – March 30, 2012
  • Late Submission Date – May 4, 2012
  • WAB Extended Deadline – June 4, 2012

  • Notification of Acceptance – (on or around) August 3, 2012
  • Exhibition copies due in office – September 21, 2012
  • Festival dates – October 12-18, 2012

The 2012 New Orleans Film Festival will feature two film sidebars: one for LGBT-related films and another for music films. We strongly encourage submissions related to those two genres.

ELIGIBILITY REGULATIONS

  • Completion Date: Entries must have been completed on or after July 1, 2011.
  • Presentation: If your film is selected for screening, we must receive the exhibition copy of your film on HDCAM (1080i). HDCAM is the preferred digital format. For short films only: exhibition copies on hard drive will be accepted if HDCAM is not available.
  • Language: Foreign language films must be with English subtitles.
  • Prior Screenings: Entries may not publicly screen in the greater New Orleans area or be televised anywhere in the US prior to the festival.
  • Prior Submissions: Entries that have been previously submitted to the New Orleans Film Festival are not eligible unless it has been re-edited or otherwise altered so that it is a substantially different film.
  • Works In Progress: Works in progress will not be accepted for consideration.

ENTRY REGULATIONS

  • Deadline: All Entries must be shipped prepaid in a bubble-pack envelope. All entries must be postmarked by the deadline date for which you are paying.
  • Formats: Entries must be submitted via 2 copies of the DVD (NTSC Regions 0 or 1 only) or via secure online link. Do not put multiple films on the same DVD.
  • DVD Labeling & Shipping: Preview DVDs must be clearly labeled with the film title, running time, and category of submission.
  • Receipt Acknowledgment: To receive acknowledgment of receipt of your entry (other than Withouabox acknowledgment), you must enclose a self-addressed stamped postcard with your entry.
  • Notification: Films selected for screening will be notified on or around August 3, 2012.

CATEGORIES

  • If the Festival determines that work has been entered in the wrong category, it will be reassigned and the entrant notified.

The categories are:

  • Narrative Feature – Fiction films 40 minutes or more.
  • Narrative Short – Fiction films 39 minutes or less.
  • Documentary Feature – Non-fiction films 40 minutes or more.
  • Documentary Short – Non-fiction films 39 minutes or less.
  • Animation – Films 39 minutes or less, animated by any means.
  • Experimental – Films 30 minutes or less that explore new and creative uses of film and video, whether in technique, form or both.
  • Louisiana Feature – films 40 minutes or greater made by a director is currently living in Louisiana and has been a resident since January 2011.
  • Louisiana Short – films under 40 minutes made by a director is currently living in Louisiana and has been a resident since January 2011.

AWARDS
Awards, plus prizes of cash, services or in-kind, will be given in the following categories;

  • Documentary Short
  • Animation
  • Experimental
