CATEGORIES + DEADLINES
The New Orleans Film Festival accepts submissions in nine different categories:

  • Narrative Feature – Narrative works of fiction that are 40 minutes or longer. Feature films must be Louisiana premieres. In 2013, 21 narrative features were selected from submissions to screen at NOFF. Of these, 6 were chosen to compete for a jury award. For the past several years, the jury prize has been a $10,000 camera rental package from Panavision.
    Earlybird Deadline 2/28/14: $40 ($30 student)
    Regular Deadline 4/11/14: $45 ($35 student)
    Late Deadline 5/9/14: $50 ($40 student)
    Extended Late Deadline 7/1/14: $80 ($70 student)
  • Documentary Feature – Non-fiction films 40 minutes or longer. Feature films must be Louisiana premieres. In 2013, 30 documentary features were selected from submissions to screen at NOFF. Of these, 6 were chosen to compete for a jury award. For the past several years, the jury prize has been a $10,000 camera rental package from Panavision.

  • Narrative Short – Fiction films that are under 40 minutes. In 2013, about 55 narrative short films were selected to screen at NOFF.

    Late Deadline 5/9/14: $40 ($35 student)
    Extended Late Deadline 6/20/14: $65 ($50 student)
  • Documentary Short – Non-fiction films that are 39 minutes or less. In 2013, 20 documentary shorts were selected to screen at NOFF.
    Earlybird Deadline 2/28/14: $30 ($25 student)
    Regular Deadline 4/11/14: $35 ($30 student)
    Late Deadline 5/9/14: $40 ($35 student)
    Extended Late Deadline 6/20/14: $65 ($50 student)
  • Animation – Projects 39 minutes or less, animated by any means. In 2013, about 15 animated shorts were selected to screen at NOFF.

    Late Deadline 5/9/14: $40 ($35 student)
    Extended Late Deadline 6/20/14: $65 ($50 student)
  • Experimental – Projects that are 30 minutes or less and explore new and creative uses of film and video, whether in technique, form, or both. In 2013, 14 experimental shorts were selected to screen at NOFF.

  • Music Video – Music videos under 15 minutes. (This is the first year that NOFF has accepted music videos.)

    Extended Late Deadline 6/20/14: $65 ($50 student)
  • Louisiana Feature – Feature films made by filmmakers currently living and working in Louisiana. To submit in this category, the director of the film must currently be a resident of the state and have lived in Louisiana since January 2013. (If you submit as a Louisiana film, your work will automatically be considered for the Documentary Features or Narrative Features category, where appropriate.)

    Regular Deadline 4/11/14: $25 ($20 student)
    Late Deadline 5/9/14: $30 ($25 student)
    Extended Late Deadline 7/11/14: $40 ($35 student)
  • Louisiana Short – Short films made by filmmakers currently living and working in Louisiana. To submit in this category, the director of the film must currently be a resident of the state and have lived in Louisiana since January 2013. (If you submit as a Louisiana film, your work will automatically be considered any other appropriate shorts categories as well.)
    Earlybird Deadline 2/28/14: $20 ($15 student)
    Regular Deadline 4/11/14: $25 ($20 student)

    Extended Late Deadline 7/11/14: $40 ($35 student)

ELIGIBILITY
Completion Date: Entries must have been completed on or after January 1, 2013.
Presentation: If your film is selected for screening, we must receive the final screening copy on a .mov file delivered on a hard
drive or via downloadable file.
Language: Foreign language films must include English subtitles.
Prior Screenings: Entries may not publicly screen in the greater New Orleans area. The only exception is for screenings of University of New Orleans student films at the UNO Film Festival. Entries may not have been televised anywhere in the US before the festival.
Copyrighted Material: It is the responsibility of the filmmaker to secure authorization for any copyrighted material that may be used in the film.

DETAILS
Screenings: All accepted films may be screened more than once, and are scheduled at the discretion of the New Orleans Film Festival
staff.
Deadline: All Entries must be shipped prepaid in a bubble-pack envelope. All entries must be postmarked by the deadline date for which
you are paying.
Formats: Entries must be submitted on DVD (NTSC Region 1 or 0 only). Do not put multiple films on the same DVD.
DVD Labeling & Shipping: Preview DVDs must be clearly labeled with the film title, running time, category, and WAB tracking number.
Notification: Films selected for screening will be notified around August 1, 2014.
Screening Fees: NOFF does not pay screening fees or guarantee travel for filmmakers.
Category: Films must be entered into one category only. If the Festival determines that work has been entered in the
wrong category, it will be reassigned and the entrant notified.
