Beatboxing - The Fifth Element of Hip Hop
USA 52 min.
Artists are the unlikely saviors of a once-vibrant African American neighborhood in Houston. Abandoned row-houses become their canvases and art installations. This art project soon creates such spirit and pride in the community that its people create a daycare center, workshops, scholarships, and housing for single mothers. The artists ultimately help residents find ways to buy their own houses, staving off anxious speculators in the process. (Never has Houston seemed so much like New Orleans, or so good a model.) Andrew Garrison is an award-winning producer/director/editor whose films have been broadcast on PBS and screened in international festivals such as Sundance, the N.Y. Film Festival, and Rotterdam.
