This film documents the lives and aspirations of a group of Moroccan street children as they take part in a two-week tree house building workshop. Beyond what they learn about carpentry, the boys learn to confront their concepts of home, family, and their own futures.
Like hundreds of other street children, the boys who take part in the tree house project face the ultimate choice: build their lives in the face of high unemployment in Morocco, or risk death emigrating illegally to Europe. As they construct their tree house the children come to embrace a new idea of home, giving them renewed hope for life in their birthplace.
Tangier Treehouse delves into the borders between Africa and Europe, between the Arab world and America, and between those who have and those who have not. It’s an inspirational story for anyone who has ever dreamed of climbing a tree and transporting themselves to another reality.
