Synopsis

One of Martin Scorcese’s screenwriters, Mardik Martin, was born in Baghdad and learned to love movies by watching them projected on his neighbor’s rooftop. He somehow made it to New York and lived the American Dream, rising from being a bus boy to writing scripts like Raging Bull and Mean Streets. Then Mardik moved to California and lost everything, a victim of the tumultuous life one might expect a Hollywood screenwriter to lead. Punctuated by brief interludes of animation, this documentary tells his story.
