Synopsis

Kids used to go out into the backyard and act out, sometimes quite elaborately, the further adventures of characters from comic books and movies and TV. It wasn’t until the eighties that technology filtered down to the sandbox and those same kids could now do “re-imaginings” just like they do on backlots at movie studios. Will’s family is very strict with what they allow: no movies or TV for this kid. But then one day he hooks upwith Lee Carter, a real hellion, who shows him a pirated copy of First Blood, the first of the Sylvester Stallone Rambo movies. Much to the horror of Will’s parents, he and Lee become tyro filmmakers, making the twosome hugely popular at school and on the playground. Enter Didier, a French exchange student, and Will’s relation to both his buddy Lee and to the cinema undergoes dramatic changes. Son of Rambow was a huge hit at the Sundance Film Festival, occasioning a bidding war for theatrical rights. From Garth Jennings and Nick Goldsmith, aka Hammer and Tongs, the creative force behind The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.
