Synopsis

After four years of bloody Civil War, and a dozen years of “Reconstruction,” the American South remains a land of violent inequality. When former slaves go on strike against the Louisiana plantations where they still toil, one white overseer takes their side, starting a chain of events that leaves many dead, and no one unchanged.

The Man Who Came Back is the latest “Gumbo Western” by Louisiana writer-director Glen Pitre, whom Roger Ebert has acclaimed “a legendary American regional director.” Inspired by the infamous Thibodaux Massacre, the film stars Emmy Award-winner Eric Braeden, Billy Zane (Titanic), Sean Young (Blade Runner), Armand Assante (Belizaire the Cajun), Ken Norton (Mandingo), Carol Alt (Private Parts), and Academy Award-winner George Kennedy.
