Synopsis

Narrated by Dustin Hoffman, this illuminating documentary explores the career of monumental architectural photographer and taste-maker, Julius Shulman. Focusing on his art and uniquely creative life, Shulman’s images are off-set by in-depth interviews with architect Frank Gehry, designer Tom Ford, artist Ed Ruscha, actress Kelly Lynch, writer Mitch Glazer, publisher Benedikt Taschen, Academy Award-nominated cinematographer Dante Spinotti and a host of others. Shulman’s influential documentation helped shape the careers of some of the greatest architects of the 20th Century including Richard Neutra, Rudolph Schindler, Pierre Koenig, John Lauthner and many others. A champion of modernism who fostered young architects, Visual Acoustics offers an unforgettable portrait of the still active, 97-year-old Shulman.
