A young couple moves into paradise, a beautiful mansion constructed by a lonesome, aging man. Something sinister lurks in the shadows, an entity unknown with intensions to destroy the young lovers as it has many times before. Just as Aiden comes to an epiphany with his impossible project, a young girl named Lucy enters the house to divide him and Evelyn.
In the parlor that evening, Lucy persuades Evelyn to have a drink of wine, the only forbidden item in the house, after which she goes back to her room where Aiden is working. An argument ensues and, heading her wishes, Aiden leaves, going down to the kitchen to drink from the open bottle of wine. Intoxicated, he follows the sound of humming to Lucy’s room.
Evelyn awakes the next morning to an empty bed. It isn’t long before the landlord discovers Aiden still asleep in Lucy’s vacant bed. Evelyn watches from her bedroom as the landlord cats them out. He confesses to Evelyn his transgression, however she doesn’t care; she only wishes to remain in the house. They argue, their fight abruptly ended when Aiden steps on a dropped wine glass.
They pack up to leave the next morning.
