A unique hybrid of dance film, documentary, and experimental short, “Two Seconds After Laughter” weaves stunning cinematography shot in Java, original Sundanese music, and a potent real-life narrative to create a border-jumping dialogue on a universal irony: The heart longs most for the place called home to which it can never return. Inspired by dancer Sri Susilowati’s experience of returning to Indonesia after 20 years in America, “Two Seconds…” is a meditation on the nature of memory and a fable-like tale of the joys and emotional dislocation experienced by contemporary immigrant peoples.
