Youth Film Contest Launches: "Drop by Drop: Water Stories"

Friday 8/31/2012

The Social Change Film Festival & Institute announces the launch of “Drop by Drop: Water Stories,” a 60-second video contest for young filmmakers, ages 18 years old or younger, from across the globe. The contest seeks videos communicating the concerns and insights of youth on WATER, focusing specifically on environmental, cultural, and/or human needs issues.

Youth 18 years old and younger can submit their film on the contest geomapping platform created by Earthvisionz. Earthvisionz technogies enable viewers to explore the region of the world where the film was created.

Deadline for submission is August 31, 2012. Submit now: http://dropbydrop.socialchangefilmfestival.org/.

There will be one Grand Prize awarded for $500 USD and 5 Honorable Mentions of $100 USD.

Submitted films will be featured on YouTube and winners will be selected via public, online voting. A selection of films will be screened on World Water Day, March 22, 2012, in Washington, D.C. in partnership with the World Bank. Finalists will be announced in November 2012 at the 2nd annual Social Change Film Festival & Institute.

Filmmaker Michael Nash, director of Climate Refugees and recipient of SCFFI’s 2011 Activist Filmmaker of the Year Award, will be incorporating footage from Drop by Drop submissions to create a collaborative youth film on water issues. The film will be screened at the 2012 SCFFI in New Orleans.

The Social Change Film Festival & Institute screened Nash’s film, Climate Refugees, at its first annual festival in Bali, Indonesia. There was also a special FREE screening of the film at the Contemporary Arts Center in New Orleans last year. The 2nd annual festival and institute is scheduled to take place in November 2012 in New Orleans on the theme of “WATER” and will be co-presented by the New Orleans Film Society.

The Social Change Film Festival & Institute believes that social change film and storytelling have the power to transform lives, communities, and societies and create a more just, humane, and sustainable future. In supporting social change film, the festival hosts multiple youth programs and contests. We are proud to partner with World Bank on the Drop by Drop: Water Stories youth filmmaking contest.
